Esserman: Entire force will mobilize for homicides

Police Chief Dean Esserman made it clear that NHPD will quickly bring the hammer down when homicides occur in the city.

"The entire force will mobilize," he said at Tuesday's Compstat meeting. "Homicides are going to be everyone's business."

The department used an unprecedented amount of force and resources to arrest a 17-year-old in connection with the homicide of city-resident Lonnie Starr on Jan. 23. The first alleged perpetrator was arrested within 12 hours of the homicide. A second 17-year-old suspect turned himself into police on Jan. 27.

Esserman commended all officers involved in the investigation. Assistant Chief Luiz Casanova highlighted Sgt. Tony Reye's performance during the marathon search for the perpetrator and said his "drive was impeccable."
