Derrick Suggs, 53, waiting on the steps of his West Street home for his longtime girlfriend, who had walked to a nearby corner grocery, is killed by a stray bullet at 12:46 a.m. Suggs died at Yale-New Haven Hospital shortly after the shooting. He leaves seven children and stepchildren.
