The body of Cassandra Mead, 21, of East Haven, is found at about 7 a.m. on Union Street near Water Street. Authorities suspect that she may have been killed elsewhere and her body dumped. If determined she was murdered in New Haven, she is the city's 24 homicide victim in 2011. She had struggled with substance abuse issues and, police say, was working the streets as a prostitute.
