Dean Esserman sworn in as New Haven Police Chief

New Haven has a new police chief.

From William Kaempffer's article on Dean Esserman's ceremony:
"It's a huge moment of urgency. Homicides have just soared in New Haven in the last two years," said New Haven Mayor John DeStefano Jr. "Violence simply put is terrifying a lot of our neighborhoods. It's sucking optimism from a lot of the good and right things that we are doing and most dramatically... it's killing our children."
What do you think this means for the murder rate of New Haven, which has seen 54 homicides since Jan. 1, 2010? Does Esserman bring hope for a decrease in murder and crime? What areas should the police focus on most?
